MindMaze are a promising band like no other. In a time when female-fronted metal is at an all-time high in popularity but also at an all-time high for copycats and imitators, MindMaze has striven hard to forge their own sound and identity. Hailing from Allentown, Pennsylvania the four-piece band are young (all aged 23-25), but have honed their craft with over one-hundred gigs spanning over 250+ miles, including sharing the stage with metal mainstays such as Saxon, Doro, Overkill, Jon Oliva’s Pain, Circle II Circle, Fozzy, George Lynch, Raven, and many more. The band’s debut album Mask of Lies has been hailed by fans and critics all over the world as an outstanding piece of independent metal that is refreshing while being firmly rooted in many classic metal mainstays. With no label support, management, or outside hired promotion, the band managed to sell copies of Mask of Lies to fans in 34 of 50 United States and a total of 17 countries worldwide, selling 90% of the album’s first pressing in the first 10 months of its release.
On the heels of Mask of Lies’ success, the band has begun work on their sophomore effort Back from the Edge, tentatively due in September 2014, featuring artwork by MONOWASP (Seventh Wonder, Harem Scarem, Brazen Abbot, Crash Diet, many more), Symphony X bassist Mike LePond on all tracks, and guest appearances by members of Stratovarius, Pharaoh, LORD, and Draekon.

This Tuesday 6/17/2014 8pm CDT on Insane Realm Radio We’ve hit a two run homer Christy Campbell of out February 2014 Band of the Month Theatrum Mundi and Sarah Teets from MindMaze join Jayson on the show to talk about their bands and the upcoming Women of Metal Fest I.
Theatrum Mundi is a female-fronted symphonic metal band from Springfield, MO. Their music takes you back to the world of England’s Queen Elizabeth I, a time when Shakespeare was composing sonnets, opera was first heard, and the Spanish Inquisition was terrorizing with ruthless efficiency. All that, plus metal guitars.
The music takes you on an epic journey where you will experience quiet moments of beauty, the intense release of operatic metal, and everything in between, with vocal melodies soaring above the fray by a duo of classically-trained vocalists, Christy Campbell and Stacey Elizabeth Luehrs, backed up by a world-class chamber chorus.
After two years of honing their songs live, in 2013 Theatrum Mundi released The Eyes of the Realm in 2013, The album received high acclaim by fans, radio, and critics alike, winning 2013 Best Symphonic Metal Album from The Symphonic Metal Show on AiiRadio, and garnering the February 2014 Band of the Month from The Women of Metal Show on Insane Realm Radio.
MindMaze also made it onto the ballot for Best Metal Band on the 2012 and 2013 Lehigh Valley Music Awards. The band reached an international audience with the release of their first full-length album “Mask of Lies” in February 2013. Featuring almost 60 minutes of original metal, “Mask of Lies” aims to satisfy fans of Traditional, Progressive, and Power Metal and all points in between with in-your-face metal anthems, sprawling epics, and melodic balladry.
The group’s sound strives to be something truly unique while paying homage to their variety of influences. Fans of Iron Maiden can admire the harmonized guitar wizardry and galloping bass lines, while fans of Savatage can admire the use of piano work alongside heavy rhythm guitar playing. Fans of Dream Theater and Rush can admire the bass and drum interplay as well as the variety of time signature changes, but most of all there is something to be said for the quality level of songwriting the band strives to achieve.
The band has always been female fronted, but has never allowed being female fronted to dictate the style of music they play. Vocalist Sarah Teets displays both power and range in her vocal work, which maintains a cleanness that still has grit when it needs to. Matched with the impressive yet tasteful playing of the rest of the band (including brother Jeff Teets on guitar/keyboards and Kalin Schweizerhof on drums as well as live bass by Mike Lepond of Symphony X and Rich Pasqualone) and an exciting live performance to boot, MindMaze are winning audiences over with every show.
