Ex-NIGHTWISH Singer ANETTE OLZON Praises TARJA TURUNEN’s New Solo Album

anettetarja_638Former NIGHTWISH singer Anette Olzon has praised the new solo effort from her NIGHTWISH predecessor, Tarja Turunen, calling it “[Tarja’s] best album so far.”

In an August 24 posting on her official blog, Anette wrote: “I am sitting listening to a great album together with my morning coffee and the album is Tarja’s new album, ‘Colours In The Dark’. I can say that if you like Tarja, go and get this album on August 30th. It’s really her best album so far, even if I like them all, but she has definitely found her own style and this album is really great! I especially like the beautiful choirs and her voice is just perfect in all the songs and the guitar sound is great!”

Turunen was fired from NIGHTWISH at the end of the band’s 2005 tour by being presented with an open letter which was published on the NIGHTWISH web site at the same time. In the letter, the other members of NIGHTWISH wrote: “To you, unfortunately, business, money, and things that have nothing to do with emotions have become much more important.”

When a female fan commented on Anette’s blog posting by saying that she was proud of Olzon for writing about Tarja “so beautifully considering [the] circumstances [under which Anette] became NIGHTWISH’s new vocalist,” Anette repied, “I have never ever had anything against Tarja and have her albums at home. What the men in NIGHTWISH do and did has never been supported by me.”

Olzon abruptly left NIGHTWISH last September in the middle of the band’s North American tour. She has since been replaced on the road by former AFTER FOREVER and current REVAMP singer Floor Jansen.

ARIA PLAN FOR 5 SONG EP “ABANDON”

ARIA PLAN FOR OCTOBER RELEASE OF 5 SONG EP “ABANDON”

A new, highly anticipated EP from ARIA. “ABANDON” is due to be released October 2013 and will be available on iTunes, Spotify and Amazon. The first single off the EP is the feisty, energetic track titled “On My Own.” The video for the track will also premiere September 3rd.

They have been working tirelessly to put together their 3rdrelease. With a debut self-titled EP and their full-length album We Are All Prisoners under their belt, they are fine-tuning their sound and honing their song-writing abilities. Teaming up once again with producer Michael Hatalak of It Dies Today to record the 5 tracks, ARIA also sought the help of co-writers Justin Gammella and Lance Camann to take a new approach.

“I feel like with each year that passes we have a better grasp on what direction we want to go and our goals become more and more specific.” Explains front-woman Bianca Dyrland. “We’ve taken more time to write these 5 songs than we have to write all our older songs combined. We don’t want to just put out music for the sake of putting out music. We want it to be the best representation of who we are now and who we want to become.”

The first single “On My Own” is bold and unfeigned, exposing a little more aggression and candor than most other ARIA songs. The song makes a big statement, calling out a friend or possibly former lover for abandoning her in a time of need, which ties in with the title and theme of the record.

“I was just trying to think of my overall state of mind during the writing process. I was feeling an overwhelming sense of abandonment both internally and externally and all the songs seemed to reflect that. So the word Abandon kind of just punched me in the face.”Elaborates Bianca on the title and theme.

ARIA is currently booking a stretch of tour dates in the eastern half of the United States that they will announce in the coming weeks to promote the release and expand their audience. The band will be touring as far southwest as Texas and working their way back up along the coast. HALESTORM Interviewed By MusikUniverse.net (Video)

halestormuniversemtl_638_0

HALESTORM has issued an official music video for the song “Here’s To Us”, the latest single off the band’s 2012 sophomore album, “The Strange Case Of…” Singer Lzzy Hale told Rolling Stone, “We wrote this song literally as our personal anthem. We’ve been through a lot together as a band, and we’ve learned to celebrate the low times as well as the highs. It’s about toughin’ out and respecting the journey for us, and that’s how we have kept it together as a foursome for 10 years! Here’s to us!”

The band recently recorded an alternate version of the track featuring guest appearances from Slash, SHINEDOWN‘s Brent Smith, ALTER BRIDGE‘s Myles Kennedy, DEVICE‘s David Draiman and others. Hale told The Pulse Of Radio that that version of the song was all about unity in the rock scene. “Everyone always thinks everybody’s in competition,” she said. “‘Oh, you know, we’re in competition for the charts!’ We’re in competition like, ‘Did you have a better set than me? Are you a better player?’ And it was important for all of us to show that none of that matters. We’re all in this together.”

“Here’s To Us” was previously covered on a February 2012 episode of the hit television show “Glee”.

The song is the fourth single from “The Strange Case Of…” , following “Love Bites (So Do I)” , “I Miss The Misery” and “Freak Like Me”. HALESTORM won the Grammy for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance in February for the chart-topping “Love Bites (So Do I)” .

The band heads to Japan this week for two shows there before returning to the U.S. and starting a new round of late summer/early fall tour dates on August 23 in Palmer, Alaska.

SORROWSEED is a dark melodic metal manifestation of twisted prophecies that once tormented the minds of Morte McAdaver and Thomas Cyranowski. Now the Extinction Prophecies are unleashed to wreak cacophonous havoc upon the ears of the masses.

Lilith Astaroth: The human manifestation of the Reaping Willow, the goddess Lilith leads the Order with her nightmarish, phlegmy Screams of Torture.

Morte McAdaver: One of two creatures to survive the dissolution of the previous order, he shall provide many Murderous Axes to the faces of feeble human filth.

Defiler Thane: First of the new souls, his Thumping Lines shall cause the earth to quake and cities to crumble.

Prometheus B. Subrick: The final of new souls (or lack thereof in his case), this failed laboratory creation infects the children of the human species with Percussive Nightmares.

The Phantom Cyr: The second of two depraved beings to survive the Order’s original demise, this disturbed conductor’s Orchestral Depravities haunt mankind’s collective conscience.

The Order has risen, and will stop at nothing until this world is at its end.

Tarja “Colours In The Dark” Interactive Interview Posted Online

tarjacolours_638

An interactive interview with former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen about her forthcoming album, “Colours In The Dark”, can be seen below.

Tarja Turunen released a new single, “Victim Of Ritual”, as a digital download, CD single and on seven-inch vinyl on July 12 via earMUSIC, the Hamburg, Germany-based international rock label which is part of Edel Group.

An evocative snare-drum that sounds like it was coming from a mysterious place, the tender sound of an orchestra joins followed by a familiar and seductive melody played by an oboe. When Tarja‘s distinctive voice resounds through the speakers, her warm timbre fills the room. Her melody is full of emotions and tender, before the song explodes into an epic, heavy chorus: “Hysterical, tragical, Victim of ritual, Cynical, critical, Victim of ritual, She’s a killer, killer, She’s a killer, killer.”

Inspired by the one-movement orchestral piece “Boléro” by Maurice Ravel, the almost-six-minutes-long “Victim Of Ritual” is the first single from Tarja‘s forthcoming album, “Colours In The Dark”.

Both physical releases will surely become rare collector’s items, being made available in strictly limited quantities. The four-song digipak CD-single is limited to 3,000 copies worldwide, whereas the two-track sevn-inch vinyl is limited to only 1,500 units worldwide.

“Victim Of Ritual” 7″ vinyl track listing:

Side A: Victim Of Ritual
Side B: Victim Of Ritual (First Demo)

“Victim Of Ritual” maxi single track listing:

01. Victim Of Ritual
02. Victim Of Ritual (first demo)
03. I Walk Alone (live from Luna Park)
04. Underneath (live from Luna Park)

“Colours In The Dark” will be released in Europe on August 23 via earMUSIC. The CD wil be made available in North America on August 27 through Eagle Rock imprint Armoury Records.

The cover artwork for “Colours In The Dark” was created by Dirk Rudolph and can be seen below. Also available is the artwork that will grace the CD’s “special edition.”

Despite her light and shiny personality, Tarja‘s music has always been dressed “in black” — the color of heavy rock, of mystery and elegance.

With Tarja‘s new album, fans will find out what happens when a splice of color is added to the mix. Or — better said — when the full-color spectrum enters the picture it does not cover the black but makes it shine through with many emotions and landscapes.

Following up on the success of the multi-platinum and gold-awarded previous records “My Winterstorm” (2007) and “What Lies Beneath” (2010), Tarja finally returns with her long-awaited new rock album.

Mixed and mastered by Tim Palmer (PEARL JAM, U2) in Austin, Texas, the songs on “Colours In The Dark” do not shy away from taking a risk and surprising musical turns, introducing new sounds and new musical atmospheres. Still, they maintain a heaviness that will surely bring a big smile to the hardest of rockers. With its grand orchestra and choir arrangements, Tarja‘s next milestone emphasizes once again the impressive vocal range of the Finnish artist and shows her artistic growth. With ten brand new songs and over one hour of music, “Colours In The Dark” is definitely going to be one of the brightest moments for rock in 2013.

In a recent interview with the Music Legends web site, Turunen stated about her upcoming CD: “I have just recently found my style and sound so I would like to establish it with the third studio album. The elements on the album will remain the same as in my previous albums, also the versatile style of songs. I like to keep the big dynamic changes between my songs, so that album songs feel radically different from each other.

“I am not stressed at all this time, even though I am producing the album on my own again. I have been lucky to gather around a group of musicians who are willing to work with me, so everything is going smoothly.”

Tarja and her husband/manager Marcelo Cabuli recently became the parents of their first child.

“Act I” was released in North America on September 4, 2012 in 2-CD, 2-DVD and Blu-ray format via the Eagle Rock imprint Armoury Records, in conjunction with earMUSIC.

Tarja‘s sophomore solo album, “What Lies Beneath”, sold around 1,300 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 24 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

Ex-THE RUNAWAYS Vocalist CURRIE: ‘It’s Become A Dream Of Mine To Come Back’

cheriecurriepromo2013_638
Cherie Currie

Former THE RUNAWAYS vocalist Cherie Currie spoke to the SF Examiner about the current status of the solo album she made in 2011 — produced by former GUNS N’ ROSES drummer Matt Sorum and and featuring guest appearances by fellow ex-GN’R members Slash and Duff McKagan, THE VERONICAS and Juliette Lewis. It also includes a duet with SMASHING PUMPKINS mainman Billy Corgan and a remake of the old RUNAWAYS classic “Queens Of Noise” with DISTILLERS and SPINNERETTE singer Brody Dalle.

After it took over a year for everyone involved to sign off on the CD, Currie, 53, was prevented from touring by her then-manager Kenny Laguna, who also represents Currie‘s former THE RUNAWAYS bandmate Joan Jett.

“He said, ‘Nope, you can’t play, it’s not time,'” says Currie. “One summer went by, and then another, and another was coming up, and I said, ‘Kenny, you can’t let me sit here. The band’s been waiting for two years!’ I was trying to tell him that I’m not 20 years old anymore — one year is like five when you hit 50.”

Currie has since ended her working relationship with Laguna, and as a result, “we’re not even sure if the record is going to see the light of day,” says her son, Jake Hays, who plays guitar in her band and whom she had with actor Robert Hays.

“Because the business didn’t work for me when I was young, it’s become a dream of mine to come back,” she says. “But I can’t wait for anybody anymore. I just want to play some RUNAWAYS songs for all the fans and kind of say goodbye, in a way.”

In a recent Facebook post, Currie said about her plans for the immediate future: “I’m going to record a single this summer and release it on iTunes. I’m going to play, play, play, like I wanted to from the beginning. I’m going to give the fans what they want and deserve without management and without a record company.

“[Fellow ex-THE RUNAWAYS member] Lita Ford said to me the other day, ‘Sister, you’re not dead yet!’ And she’s right. It’s time to put faith in the only things I can count on. Myself and the fans. That’s really all that matters.”
