Leeja Stark (STARK) On Women of Metal Show 9/14/2013

Leeja Stark
Leeja Stark

Leeja Stark from our September 2013 Band of the Month (STARK) joins Jayson Shell for a live conversation this Saturday 9/21/2013 only on The Women of Metal Radio Show on Insane Realm Radio

STARK is an electronic/industrial rock band based in Pittsburgh, PA. The band was formed by songwriter Leeja Stark for a dark dancey sound.

Leeja has had many songwriting collaborations but STARK is really about unleashing the dark side of her songwriting. Lyrics about love and hate, supernatural beings, sex, and violence hold their own within the synth driven beats.

STARK’s songwriter Leeja had the lyrics and melody’s. The dark dancey sound that evolved just seemed the best way to bring the words to life. When other musicians became interested, the band evolved further becoming industrial, heavy, dark and dancey.

LACUNA COIL Begins Recording New Album

Lacuna Coil
Lacuna Coil

Italian heavy rockers LACUNA COIL have entered the studio with producer Jay Baumgardner (P.O.D., SEVENDUST, EVANESCENCE, PAPA ROACH) to begin recording their new album for an early 2014 release via Century Media Records.

After the first days of recording, the band is already happy with the magic happening in the studio.

Cristina Scabbia (vocals): “I am so excited to work on new stuff…

“I am sure a lot of people will be mesmerized by the cinematic vibe of the new album that’s underway.

“I’m very happy to have the chance to work with Jay. Not only is he a pro in what he does, but I am just loving the fact we are going to experiment with new sounds and are getting a different point of view about our art. We’re swamped with the music already…

LACUNA COIL is back, baby!!!”

Andrea Ferro (vocals): “We met Jay a few years ago in L.A. and had a really positive feeling about him, as he has produced and mixed some of my favourite records and some very relevant rock/metal albums.

“We have decided to work with him, because he has the ability to work together with the band towards a common vision without driving the band away from their sound.

“In the studio, there is the right energy that allows common people to achieve uncommon results!”

Cristiano “Pizza” Migliore (guitar): “Yeah, we’re very excited about finally recording new songs — and I can assure you that the new stuff kicks ass!”

LACUNA COIL plans on completing the recording sessions for the new album before joining the “Tragic Illusion Tour” that will celebrate PARADISE LOST‘s 25th anniversary. A few days earlier, they will perform at the Metal Female Voices Fest in Belgium.

LACUNA COIL‘s latest album, “Dark Adrenaline”, sold around 20,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 15 on The Billboard 200 chart. It marked the band’s second CD with producer Don Gilmore (LINKIN PARK, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE) at the helm.

“We changed producers on our last album, ‘Shallow Life’, and we wanted to work with Don,” Scabbia told KNAC.COM. “I think that we wanted to change producers mainly to see what we could do with a different person. A producer is much like a teacher and we wanted to learn something new and we found that our goals and Don‘s were much the same. When listening to ‘Dark Adrenaline’, I can say that there is so much different. We are more experienced now and more confident in our sound and we get inspired to try to do more with each new record.”

Halestorm Announce New Release, ReAniMate 2.0: The CoVeRs eP

Halestorm
Halestorm

Halestorm have unveiled details of their new EP, ReAniMate 2.0: The CoVeRs eP, which will arrive on October 15. The EP marks the acclaimed hard-rock band’s follow-up to 2011’s ReAniMate: The CoVeRs eP. As with its predecessor, ReAniMate 2.0: The CoVeRs eP sees Halestorm putting their distinctive spin on a eclectic collection of classic songs, including, this time, tracks by Judas Priest, AC/DC, Pat Benatar, Fleetwood Mac, Marilyn Manson, and Daft Punk (see track list below).

“Like our first ReAniMate EP, the songs included here are a collection of both our favorite songs and songs to challenge ourselves,” said Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale. “We decided to go more ‘bare bones’ with this EP, meaning minimal production with live, gritty performances. We recorded this EP the week of the Grammys, so the excitement and debauchery you hear through your speakers is very real. We hope all our fans have as much fun with ReAniMate: 2.0 as we did!”

In the meantime, Halestorm are touring across North America, with a variety of headline and festival dates scheduled through early October. From there, the band will cross the Atlantic for a major European arena trek alongside Alter Bridge. Additionally, the band just announced a run of North American dates finishing out the year–see www.halestormrocks.com/tour for up-to-the-minute news and ticket information.

Filled with one blistering hard rocker after another, featuring the tough yet soulful, passionate and empowered vocals of QUEEN V, backed by an army of guitar slingers (including herself), The Decade of Queen V encompasses her recorded output from 2005 to 2013.

The Decade of Queen V opens with “Revolution Baby” (2009) where Queen V snarls “if you think you own me, go to hell,” complete with a Led Zeppelin-styled blues-harp by Jon Paris, and ends with “Wasted” (2009), an anthem-for-the-ages co-written by Motörhead’s Lemmy who shares vocal duties with V. Other highlights on the album include the brand new “Cry Your Eyes Out,” the gutsy “My Machine (2009), which features a burning lead guitar solo by Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), and the deeply moving “Right Or Wrong” (2005). No other rock group from Russia has exploded onto the music scene quite as rapidly as LOUNA. Their first English language album, Behind A Mask, was released on April 30, 2013 via Red Decade Records and MEG/RED.  Frontwoman Lousine Gevorkian was named the best female rock vocalist in Russia in February of 2013 at the annual Nashe Awards, the closest award show in Russia to the Grammy’s or American Music Awards for rock musicians. She was nominated for the same award the year before.

LOUNA are the most commercially successful rock band of the modern protest movement (of which Pussy Riot has become the most internationally renowned). They donated their song “The Time of X” to the White Album project raising funds for Pussy Riot’s support and defense.  MTV USA came to Moscow in the Fall of 2012 and will feature LOUNA in an upcoming documentary about protest musicians around the world called “Rebel Music” airing in October on MTV.

After the release of their first EP, which lyrically focused on the many modern social problems that exist, they were quickly named the 2009 Best New Artist of the Year at the annual Russian Alternative Music Prize (RAMP) awards. They released their first album, “Let’s Get Louder” in December of 2010, selling out every venue during their first national tour of Russia supporting the album. Two singles, “Fight Club” and “Let’s Get Louder” reached #1 on the Russian radio charts, with “Fight Club” remaining in the top 10 for a record-breaking 16 weeks and also being named the 2011 Rock Song of the Year at the annual Nashe Awards. Along with this, LOUNA was nominated for Breakthrough Artist and Solo Performance of the year. “Mama,” their first single from their February 2012 album, “The Time of X”, went straight to #1 on the Russian radio charts.

LOUNA has performed on the main stage as a headliner at every major festival throughout Russia, and is almost universally considered the most in demand young rock band in all of the Russian world.  They have played in Russia with numerous international artists such as Limp Bizkit, Billy Talent, Paramore, The Killers, Bullet for My Valentine and many others.  In early 2012, they were invited to perform as one of the main headliners at the 50th-birthday concert festival honoring Russian rock legend Victor Tsoi of the band KINO, playing to audiences of over 15,000 people in both Moscow and St. Petersburg.

LOUNA is:

Lou Gevorkian (vocals)

TARJA TURUNEN To Join LIVING COLOUR On Stage In Buenos Aires

Tarja Terunen
Tarja Terunen

Former NIGHTWISH singer TarjaTurunen will make a very special guest appearance with LIVING COLOUR on Thursday, September 12 at Teatro Gran Rex in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

LIVING COLOUR bassist Doug Wimbish played with Tarja on her “My Winter Storm” (2007) and “What Lies Beneath” (2010) albums and has toured with her in the past.
Asked by TarjaArgentina.com how he became involved with Tarja, Doug said: “Well, they found me. They researched and found me, actually. When she was in the process of making her record, they had put together a ‘dream team’ of musicians that they would like to work with, based off of records that they liked. And quite a few of those records that they liked, that they used for reference, I recorded on, one of with was the Seal record, the first Seal record I did. And I did Annie Lennox’s records, her early records. DEPECHE MODE… And I did a lot of work with Trevor Hom. They know what I did with THE ROLLING STONES and all that stuff, but I think, honestly it was the Seal record, the production of the Seal record and the sound of that. They were kind of going for this orchestral energy with a great voice embedded inside and the luscious energy of music. And my name kept appearing on these records, you know, and the producer, Daniel Presley, who did that record [‘My Winter Storm’] contacted me on behalf of Tarja and [Tarja’s husband/manager] Marcelo, and I guess what they did was, they put together a list of those who they’d really like to participate in there. They didn’t know me, they didn’t really know who I was, they just saw… They knew my name from the records. So they reaserched and found me. They found my accountant, they found the person that handles my money and I got an e-mail from him saying, ‘There’s some people who’re trying to contact you•’ So I followed up on the contact… and I contact the producer, he contacts me, we talk about it, and he’s’ like, ‘Hey, are you available to do this record> I’m working with this artist…” I heard of NIGHTWISH, I wasn’t familiar with the exact setup, but I know of NIGHTWISH from living in London, the music scene in Europe. So then, next thing you know, I get a phone call, my lawyer talks to their business person, and off we go. It happened very quickly and very natural. It was a very natural thing.”

Ex-NIGHTWISH Singer ANETTE OLZON Praises TARJA TURUNEN’s New Solo Album

anettetarja_638Former NIGHTWISH singer Anette Olzon has praised the new solo effort from her NIGHTWISH predecessor, Tarja Turunen, calling it “[Tarja’s] best album so far.”

In an August 24 posting on her official blog, Anette wrote: “I am sitting listening to a great album together with my morning coffee and the album is Tarja’s new album, ‘Colours In The Dark’. I can say that if you like Tarja, go and get this album on August 30th. It’s really her best album so far, even if I like them all, but she has definitely found her own style and this album is really great! I especially like the beautiful choirs and her voice is just perfect in all the songs and the guitar sound is great!”

Turunen was fired from NIGHTWISH at the end of the band’s 2005 tour by being presented with an open letter which was published on the NIGHTWISH web site at the same time. In the letter, the other members of NIGHTWISH wrote: “To you, unfortunately, business, money, and things that have nothing to do with emotions have become much more important.”

When a female fan commented on Anette’s blog posting by saying that she was proud of Olzon for writing about Tarja “so beautifully considering [the] circumstances [under which Anette] became NIGHTWISH’s new vocalist,” Anette repied, “I have never ever had anything against Tarja and have her albums at home. What the men in NIGHTWISH do and did has never been supported by me.”

Olzon abruptly left NIGHTWISH last September in the middle of the band’s North American tour. She has since been replaced on the road by former AFTER FOREVER and current REVAMP singer Floor Jansen.
